UFO = unidentified flying object

UAP = unusual aerial phenomenon

Interpretation of Sightings:

  • Please note that UFOCUS NZ does not consider every 'light in the sky' or 'UFO' or 'UAP' to be an 'alien craft'. 'UFO' in our terminology simply means 'unidentified flying object'.
  • We do not necessarily believe that every report received is accurate and true.
  • We try to filter out hoaxes, and fabrications usually become obvious with a little intelligent and scientific scrutiny, and interviewing.
  • We will display possible hoaxes on our website as an educational exercise for the public.
  • In some cases the data received may be incomplete or limited, and the credibility of the witnesses unknown.
  • We strive to present reports as received, and perform a comprehensive analysis to the best of our abilitiy given the data provided.
  • Analysis may include examination of footage/photos by photographic data analysts.
  • We confer with a range of scientific and professional services in the analysis of a sighting or event.

Gathering of Evidence

As well as eyewitness reports, other kinds of evidence may be gathered by sighting investigators.

  1. Air Traffic Control information on aircraft flight paths, helicopter activity, search & rescue, etc.
  2. Astronomic information on planetary positions, meteor showers, etc.
  3. Photographs.  Photos/footage may be examined by a photographic data analyst or ATC.
  4. Physical Traces.  Soil, vegetation, or other samples for laboratory analysis.
  5. Radarscope. If appropriate under NZ's radar system.
  6. Medical Records.  Medical verification of any physiological effects attributed to the UFO/UAP incident where the medical examiner can determine no other cause.
  7. Police activity, reports from radio stations, media, etc

Request for information: The Gisborne UFO Flap

Suzanne Hansen of UFOCUS NZ was living in the Gisborne area at the time of the Gisborne UFO flap and witnessed a number of strange anomalous lights and objects in the sky.

Were you also living in the Gisborne/East Coast area during the late 70's and early 80's, and did you experience:
UFO sightings? Sightings of metallic craft? Sightings of unusual anomalous lights?
UFO occupants? Did you experience a close encounter or missing time?

We would like to hear from you to document your sightings or experiences. Confidentiality assured.

UFOCUS NZ has a considerable archive of information on the Gisborne UFO flap and we are keen to add to it. If you had personal experiences or if you have newspaper clippings etc., please contact us.

Please fill out our Report Form or contact Sue directly by email, post or phone.
