The
NEW ZEALAND INTERNATIONAL 'FUTURE PERSPECTIVES' CONFERENCE 2007
will be held
in the beautiful city of Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand.
ROTORUA
CITY
Rotorua is known
as the 'geothermal wonderland' of New Zealand and is a popular tourist
destination. Rotorua is also renowned as the heartland of Maori culture
with numerous cultural sites and performances to enjoy.
Rotorua has
a population of around 68,000 and attracts around 1.6 million visitors
annually. The city is situated on the shores of picturesque Lake Rotorua,
surrounded by a string of smaller lakes, bush walks, parks, and tourist
activities. The lakes are all formed from the craters of extinct volcanoes
and host a variety of water-based activities.
Most notable
though, are the impressive geothermal 'hotspots' where visitors can get
right up close to geysers, boiling mud pools, steaming vents, and glistening
multi- coloured pools! - or relax in warm therapeutic mineral pools, spas,
or thermal mud packs!
Rotorua enjoys
moderate daytime temperatures of between 13 and 23 degrees in September
(Spring time). It has excellent public transport, shopping centres, restaurants
and cafes, and the accommodation is wide and varied to suit all budgets.
